Media History (in the English-speaking world)
Paul McIlvenny and Jørgen Riber Christensen

The course gives a broad introduction to the history of the media in the English-speaking world. The course gives a historical perspective on a range of media, including print, television, film, comics, stickers, badges, blogs, iPods, mobile phones and other forms of digital media. The course contextualizes these diverse media in relation to changes in technology and society, as well as to their transformative impact on cultures and societies. The course moves from the development of print media after Caxton in the 15th century, through to the remediations of Shakespeare in the 18th century, on to the text/image sequential art of comics originating in the late 19th century, and finally to the present generation of so-called new media.

There is a course compendium, which can be purchased in the Centerboghandel, Fib 15.
