Aalborg is the fourth largest city of Denmark. It is inhabited by 160,000 people
and is the regional capital of Northern Jutland. Aalborg is situated on the Limfjorden,
the strait dividing Jutland into two parts.
The
history of Aalborg can be traced back more than 1,000 years, when it was founded
by the Vikings. Trading is a very important part of Aalborg's history, and some
of the old historic buildings are trading houses from the 17th century.
Lots of tourists visit Aalborg during the summer. They all come to experience
nature and the sandy beaches of North Jutland, and they go to Aalborg for city
atmosphere.
Aalborg is known as an exciting town with a wide variety of activities. In
addition to a vast number of cultural events Aalborg is renowned for its many
restaurants, cafes.
Jomfru Ane Gade, Aalborg's amusement street, is Denmark's longest continuous
stretch of restaurants, pubs, discotheques, cafés with music and bars -
a very popular place among students.
Another
popular place among the students is a place called the Student House. It offers
a wide range of facilities, such as a café, a stage, a cinema, computers
and an International Contact Centre, as well as numerous activities, e.g. talks
debate, performances, concerts etc.
There are plenty of social & cultural activities all over Aalborg. Several
theatres are located in Aalborg performing both traditional and experimental plays.
Aalborg also has several cinemas. All movies are shown in the original versions
with Danish subtitles.
Whatever you like, Aalborg is almost sure to be able to fulfil your needs -
and more so. It is not a coincidence that the majority of students graduating
from Aalborg University choose to stay in Aalborg when their studies are over.
